EBOLA -- THE DEADLY, FLESH-EATING VIRUS
I caught the very end of a show on PBS called "Tony Brown's Journal" on Sunday afternoon, July 16, 1995. Mr. Brown's guests were Eric Molina, a Desert Storm veteran, and Gary Null, Ph.D., a public health scientist. The title of the particular show was "Why Are the Gulf Veterans Sick?" {1}.

GARY NULL: ...they have no medical and scientific systems to detect and to moderate this.
Then they decided not only to put an end to population, they've decided to put an end to the water! So they put it into the rivers. Now the idea is, that today there are... The original virus, that was found in Zaire, was so powerful that when they put it in nitrogen-sealed water containers and shipped it to Paris at room temperature, it was still as active, weeks later. So water does not disperse it or cause it to be neutralized. As a result, what do you think happens? Is water an innate, inert substance? No. You have fish, that people eat. You have mosquitoes that spawn, and feed off that water. Those mosquitoes can infect. And we know that mosquitoes pass malaria. We know they pass all other forms of contaminants.
And also, where does the water flow to? You can put a pound of a biological weapon in the water, and a thousand miles later you can contaminate the water at that thousand mile level. So there was no thought of the long-term consequences. Besides: they finished the operation; they left. Their hands were clear, just like we, you know... By the way, Angola...
TONY BROWN:
What was the purpose of the operation?
GARY NULL:
The operation was, to see how effective...
TONY BROWN:
This was in Zaire.
GARY NULL:
Zaire, which is in the Belgian Congo...
TONY BROWN:
Yes. Yes.
GARY NULL:
...How effective would it be in neutralizing opposition forces to
the ruler of Zaire at that time. [They] wanted the opposition
dealt with, and this is one of the ways they felt that they could
deal with it. And they were testing, for their purposes... Just
like they used to test the prison population. They used to test
the G.I.s! They tested LSD, and they committed suicide -- without
their knowledge or permission. The way they used to inject women,
right here at a major cancer hospital in New York. One of the
heads of science there (and I have reported on this), he
injected live cancer cells into the thighs of women, did not
tell them it was cancer cells. They thought... (These were
pediatric patients.) They thought it was a special vitamin to see
whether or not the live cancer cells would take. That man was
never fired. He was allowed to leave. And guess where he
went? He went to the oldest and largest biological testing and
genetic engineering testing place in the united States, a
foundation that is absolutely secret, who works with private
industry.
So what you have is, you have, we suddenly have flesh-eating bacteria -- a lethal, strep form -- viruses that in normal history could not have "jumped" over ten thousand years. We have human viruses affecting animals, animal affecting... one species, like a seal virus, affecting cats. This is unheard of. They're... Generally, the viruses or bacteria are specific to the species. Now we have bovine-visna virus (cattle and sheep, cross- mixing)...
TONY BROWN:
Bottom line. We've got about a minute.
GARY NULL:
Bottom line is, we have created, either by accident or intent, we
have created biological agents that are in the environment now.
And all you're gonna see is more and more of them. And the news
will never report "Where did they come from," the news will never
report...
TONY BROWN:
Therefore, I know you don't accept the premise that this ebola
virus lives in the rain forest, comes out and kills a few people,
goes back to the rain forest, waits 'til somebody else comes.
GARY NULL:
No way. Why would it have suddenly appeared in 1976? Did someone
"knock on its door"?
TONY BROWN:
Then it went away.
GARY NULL:
Yeah. For 19 years?
TONY BROWN:
It came back a few months ago, killed some more.
GARY NULL:
Yeah.
TONY BROWN:
Mister Molina, I'm sorry, but Mr. Null is such a compelling
speaker. He knows so much. I did not, I do not want to ignore
you. What are you doing now? (We only have about a minute.) What
are you doing now, to recoup what you feel you have lost?
(Which is your health, I guess.)
ERIC MOLINA:
Well I'm just tryin' to get my life back together again after
almost 4 years, you know? After I got back, I came back from the
war, I divorced my first wife. And I had a really rough...
TONY BROWN:
You divorced your first wife?
ERIC MOLINA:
Exactly.
TONY BROWN:
Or did she divorce you?
ERIC MOLINA:
No. I divorced her.
TONY BROWN:
You divorced her.
ERIC MOLINA:
Right. And, you know, things just became really messed up for me.
TONY BROWN:
Do you have children?
ERIC MOLINA:
Yes. My first marriage. Yeah. I got re-married after that.
And I'm just having a rough time, as far as trying to pick up the pieces, and start where I left off.
TONY BROWN:
We certainly wish you well. And we certainly hope you get your
health back. And I thank you so much for being here.
And again, Dr. Null, thank you so much for being here.
